Speedometer Quit

Well, last week i was going down the highway and my cruise shut off. i looked down and the speedometer was bouncing around 45-50 and i was going roughly 75. Then, the other day it quit. The brake and abs lights are on and i have no speedometer and the odometer doesnt work either. I crawled underneath and checked the power and ground to the speed sensor and both were good. I then put in a new speed sensor and still nothing. Any other ideas on what i should try? thanks

when mine did that i changed out the speed sensor in the rear and that solved my problem instantly. which one did you change? the output shaft sensor on the trans or the one in the rear diff?

Check your ABS fuse on the side of your dash. I used to pull that fuse to shut off the speedometer when I was still under warranty to keep miles off the truck. I hade all the same lights on and the cruise wouldn’t work.

does the wiring for the speed sensor go straight to the dash or does it go to the comp on the side of the block first and then to the dash?

Automatics need both sensors for the speedo to work, the one on the rear pumpkin, and the one in the transmission.

You could also have a loose or damp connection at the ABS computer.

Wow, DTR strickes again! I seached this thread up after my speedo quit. It was my rear differential speed sensor. It cracked and allowed water & dirt it and the copper wire broke.

Thanks DTR!
