Speedometer quit

I just picked up a 94 2500 ctd, from a buddy of mine. He told me the speedometer did'nt work so he replaced the sensor on I believe he said the tranfer case, anyways it did'nt fix the problem. Sometimes while driving, say like 60, the meter will bounce up to 100, and might stay for awhile, or not. any ideas for a place for me to check? Its the only gauge in the dash thats not working, WTS, WIF are working. Thanks

I wanted to add, whats the sensor, where the wire goes on the rearend for? thanks

On my 1998.5 the abs light came on and the speedo quit working. I ended up changing the sensor that is above the ring gear in the rearend it solved my problems simple fix only 1 bolt and unplug and replug the new sensor.

Hope this helps

Can you get that at a parts store, or is it a dodge thing? thanks

I went to 2 parts stores in town, they showed in their books, 2 differant styles then mine. One of there's had a harness to it, and both had 3 prongs, mine has a 2 prong setup. Is this like your setup? thanks

Do you have ABS lights? Yours is likely the ABS sensor in the rear. On his truck, the speedo is picked up in the tailshaft of the t-case (or tranny, if it were a 2wd), so the rear end sensor has no affect. Yours will either be a bad sensor, or a broken wire.

lights

I do have rear abs. The dummy light is not on. I've replaced both speed sensors, (rear diff and tranny)

When I replaced the rear diff speed sensor over a year ago it fixed a "fluttering speedometer" and "abs dummy light problem"

Now the speedometer jumps to 100, not fluttering and no dummy lights on.
