So do the heater grids come on EVERY time you turn the key on? Or ONLY at or below a determined temperature? I always wait for the "Wait to Start" light to go out before cranking it. On some mornings, I can wait for 10-15sec until the grids turn off. Once it's warm, though, I only wait about 1-2sec before the light goes out. Are the grids coming on during this short period?

Idaho, where you are, I'd only worry about letting the light go off in the winter. During the summer, fire that puppy up and let the good times roll.

I paid 2k for both of em. The 92 just had a new injection pump in it. It was my uncle so I paid $250 every month until it was paid off. So far no problems cept the kdp I found during the last oil change.

Well, the light's always going to come on as the system does its POST, but I'm pretty sure the grid heaters don't actually come on except below a certain temp. I'm not sure exactly what that temp is, but I know in the summer I don't get the light-dimming that I do in the winter as the truck warms up after starting.

I'm Up here in New Meadows, Idaho where the temp drop to -20F* and I've never had a problem starting the truck. I don't plug it in and I only wait for the light on the first start of the morning other than that.... I start it now!

Grid heater comes on if the manifold temp is below +60F* so if the motor is warm you will not see a voltage drop for the grid heaters....

On really cold dayz you will see the grid cycle on a warm start but this is totally normal to see the voltage gauge rise and fall!

I would tell the guy "ya your right" and tell him that Dodge trucks use 12 spark plugs, 2 per cyl.

This way the next time he talks to another Furd or Dodge owner he can be a bigger idiot.

No since in arguing with him.

The grids come on below 59 degrees F. Above that the light is a bulb check.

For some odd reason, I couldn't find the temp in the FSM. POST is a computer term that stands for "Power On Self Test."
