Angry sluggish on lower rpm's!

if i take off from a dead stop it accelerates ok, but once i am rolling it takes a good amount of pedal to get through those low rpm's. i have replaced the map sensor because of the 0238 code that came up but it is still sluggish in the low rpm's. i have bypassed the drag comp to eliminate it.

for instance, today i went to pass up a semi from around 1600 rpm's or so and it just took forever to build speed. there is not a great amount of smoke coming out. atleast not more than usual. the tranny is brand new and shifts firm. it is frustrating the heck out of me. it was never like this until recent. and dont ask me when did it start because it wasn't like it happened overnight. it just started to become noticiable within the last few months. i am considering taking it to a good performance diesel shop and just saying here, please find out why my truck is so darn freakin sluggish. i know it is going to cost alot to do that but i am running out of ideas and the truck is frustating the heck out of me.

What is your fuel pressure at? When is the last time you changed your fuel filter and air filter?

Are there any other codes present?

Whats your boost and EGT's at, have they changed noticably since the problem started? Change your fuel filter for good measure, and I would clean the connection at the MAP sensor with some contact cleaner. Might be worth doing a leak test on the intercooler boots. Check at the MAP sensor too. Did this all occur before or after you changed the sensor?

egt's maybe a tad bit higher. like 25 degrees higher. boost seems to climb a bit slower but eventually reaches its normal position.

I would change the fuel filter and Air Filter. Your EGT's and lower boost raise could easily be caused by dirty air filter. The lower boost raise could also be caused from dirty fuel filter, those two can kinda go hand in hand with each other.

my fuel pressure is more than good. 16@idle 14@wot. i just changed both fass fuel filters 6 months ago.

i hate to point fingers, but i have tried everything (replaced map sensor, cleaned iat sensor, checked for boost leaks, removed edge comp from truck, fuel pressure is more than good) and it makes me wonder if the good ole VP44 is doing all of this?

Have you tried resetting the APPS? Crazier things have happened. I'd hate to say its the VP and it turn out to be something simple. But then again, they are trash anyway . . .

I would agree, try to rule out the simplest first. He said the FP and Filters are good so that is out. I would still be cautious of the 1.5 year old air filter though, air filters might not look dirty, but man can they be plugged!

i did the apps reset.
i took my air filter off and drove around the block. little bit of difference but then again the air filter was off.
i cleaned the map sensor again.
i am going to see if the local diesel shop will swap vp44's for a test drive. i am pretty good with them so will see if they will go for it. i will keep u guys updated. thanks for the help so far.
