RV275's/DD2's/Edge = Smoke Control?

Here in Maricopa County (Phoenix, AZ) the state forces an Opacity (ie: how thick is the smoke) Test annually. I'm getting ready to step up the injectors in my truck next, so I guess my question is in regards to the extent you can control smoke on the RV275's vs. the DD2's with an Edge. Of course, I'd like to go with the DD2's for twice the power increase of the 275's, but I don't really want to swap injectors in and out each year. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

What is the nature of the opacity test? Do they just have you hold a certain RPM, is there a wheel dyno??? Does the inspection guy operate the go pedal or do you? Unloaded, there wont be jack for smoke either way. If they just have you pull into a bay, put their sniffer in and tell you to rev the engine, just baby it!!! Dont let the evironmentalist system influence you, if you do they win.....

Keep the 275's and swap them with the DD2's when you go in for the test.

Is the Edge and EZ, Pulse, or Comp? If it is a Pulse or Comp adjust the settings to reduce the low boost fueling before you go in.

I have a comp & 275's .............just turn the comp off when you go in.........no more smoke than stock

Does an EZ cause more smoke than an Comp on 1x1?

I know my pulse makes a lot of smoke especially in 4th gear low boost.

I do believe the levels on the comp are in 20hp increments so level 3 would be equivilent to an ez (60hp)

sub levels control what boost level the box comes on at so the lower the sub level is set the less fuel is dumped in at low boost levels so less smoke

I do believe I read somewhere that 1x1 would actually be less fueling than stock at low levels

I also heard that 1x1 is lower than stock fueling...

Crashinaz -

See my sig..I had same problem here in Ca. Was running EDM stage 2's..Awesome power, big smoke. Got two letters from smoke police..So, I went back to rv275's, no smoke, little power. Settled on DD2's with an HX-35 hybrid. Good power, no smoke. Even on level 9 on TST box, just a slight grey haze..Run level 3 all day long no smoke. My combo is good for around 380 hp..

Thanks for all of the input 8). The test is actually an "unloaded" test, so I you don't even have to pull onto the rollers. They call it a "snap acceleration test", which consists of them throwing a test tube on the exhaust and having you stab it from idle to the governer three times... They take the mean of the three runs and that's your score. My year and GVWR is allowed 40% opacity. Kind of a pain, but from what FMX stated, it sounds like I can get away with the DD2s.

Trust me, I'm not giving into the "greenies"... I've got some pretty time consuming hobbies (rock crawling, drag racing, and boating/wakeboarding), so the last thing I really want to do is spend loads of time getting my tow rig to pass some silly test a legislator used to get votes .

Thanks a lot for your help folks.
