Replaced Starter, Thought This Was Interesting
So I replaced my starter today and payed the $5 core charge and kept my original starter that I'm gonna rebuild and use as a back up... Install wasn't that bad except for almost knocking myself out on the pumpkin once the top bolt broke lose.
Anyway, I thought this was interesting. Looks like one of the connectors was replaced with a "LarryB's Connector" and it is the one that looks to be wore out, the stock one looks brand new.

Yeah, most of the ones I take apart have one contact all worn out and one that's still like new. I attribute it to electron flow. Interesting that it had already worn out a set of contacts though, must be a lot of miles on it.
The way I understand it the reason this happen is that one side contacts first. Since it does, there is no arc to erode the contact. As the other side hits it sparks and erodes. In short, normal operation, and not indicative of a defective part.
The plunger you will note has a spring that engages the bridge contact plate to absorb the difference.

I edventually replaced my stock starter (had 500,000kms on it) it went thru 2 sets of stock contacts before installing the larry b type. anyway before installing the aftermarket starter I pulled the cover and discovered that it had one smaller and one larger contact as pictured above, I think thats the normal thing for rebuilds (just a guess), I have opened two 3rd gen starters and they come stock with the larger contacts
