remote filters and engine oil cooler

Was looking through my latest Jeg's catalog the other day and noticed they have a dual-remote oil filter and engine oil cooler setup for our trucks. Now if this was just a SB chevy I'd have no problem with it, but this is the mighty Cummins. Here's my question: Most remote filters use a Fram PH8A or equivalent, our warranty says we can't use Fram filters. But would using two lessen the chances of filter disintegration? I guess someone else who's filters we can use make a PH8A equivalent. Would needed oil pressure be lost in the trip through the two filters and cooler? Is a cooler even necessary? I run an oil temp guage and it stays right at 195. Any ideas?????
-Dave

Dave-
If your oil temp is running at 195, don't waste money and add complications by putting on an oil cooler. Any oil temp below 230 is not excessive. Why would you want to go with two filters? Seems like added expense every oil change for questionable benefit. If both filters are the same, the second one in line will stay clean. I would be concerned about pressure drop as well. Remember the KISS principle of engineering when adding stuff to your truck and you'll do fine.

Had another thought, excessively low oil temps will be bad for the engine. Engine clearances are set so that they will be correct at operating temperature. If an oil cooler drops your temp 50 degrees, it could cause damage due to excessive clearances on the rods and mains. Kinda the same effect as flogging the motor before it warms up, except it would be happening all the time. I've seen oil thermostats to prevent this problem, but I think they open at 190 degrees, so there wouldn't be much point to it. Just more complexity to get fouled up. KISS.

The KISS principle? Never heard that one. You;ve confirmed most of my own thoughts on this. I do run two filters on my Camaros, just to make sure, but they're driven a lot harder than my truck.
I guess when you're working a vehicle harder than it is designed (like a gasser) you must make certain adaptations to withstand the added abuse. Something you need not worry about when you have a machine designed to works its a$$ off....

If you do want to do this, I believe that the cross-reference for a Baldwin filter is B-2. I have a pile of them on the shelf for the racecar remote.
Considering the size of the B-2 element, and the block mounted filter on the CTD, I don't think that you'll gain much, if any. Probably very close in total media surface area.

Re:remote filters and engine oil cooler

I am working on a dual remote filter system, but due to many other things it will be some time before I will finish it and be able to post pictures. My setup will use original filters (size) and run the filters in paralel, that is not one filtering the output of the first. This way the back pressure will be less and and flow increased to the engine. As to why am I doing this? I like to play around, my truck is my toy and I love overkill.

The system will use one engine block adapter and two fliter head adapters from LOFA (lofa.net) The two adapters will be plumbed together with fittings from Fragola Performance Systems (adivision of F-F Screw Sysytems ;D) (fragolaperformancesystems.com). Hope this helped some. If interested let me know and I will take pictures of the componets for now.

Thanks, 98ramtough, I was trying to think of a diplomatic way to explain it.

Re:remote filters and engine oil cooler

I've had a dual remote system on all three of my trucks with no problems. The main filter is a 5 micron and the other is a 1 micron.
