rebuilt nv5600 still grinds
Update 1/5/2012: I went to the Dodge dealership this morning, and had the service tech that rebuilt my nv5600 drive the truck. Sure enough, he was able to reproduce the grinding from the 3-4 shift, and he said they will fix this.
He said they most likely will end up replacing the blocker. The are ordering the parts and will follow up with me next week to set up a time for me to bring the truck back to them. I am not sure why the blocker would be bad with the tranny just having had the Mopar master rebuild kit installed (unless the blockers weren't part of the kit, but I just want them to fix it.
I asked the tech when they tear into the tranny to check any of the other blockers to see if they also need to be replaced since I want this fixed once and for all. I noticed that the 2-3 shift was grinding this morning when I started up the road from my house. That is the first time I've ever heard 2-3 grind, so obviously the Dodge place needs to revisit their rebuild. It sounds like they are going to make this right, so I am hoping they will.
thanks for everyone's help on this.

Something isn't right in the box, that's all there is to it. Get the dealership GM to drive it with you and have him experience it first hand. Ask him if he would like the opportunity to make it right, if not, start the ball rolling by contacting the BBB and an attorney.
A slight break in is one thing, but grinding and hard into reverse isn't normal at this point.
OOPS! Just saw the above post. Good work Ted!
Thanks! They have said what I wanted to hear, now I will wait to see if they do the right thing and fix it according to what they said without taking any shortcuts.
The service tech said he also needed to check with Chrysler for the recommended course of action, which he already said would be to replace the blocker(s) (blocking rings?), and so I want to make sure they don't try and have him cheapskate it and do something like just changing the fluid.
I want them to take it apart and find and replace the bad parts, and I'll follow up with them Monday as they requested. Let's hope they fix it once and for all this time. They already kept the truck 3 weeks while doing the rebuild and waiting for parts to come in, and this will take a few more days - hopefully not more than this - to tear down and replace the parts. I need the thing to drive to work. I plan to ask them for a rental, but I seem to recall one Dodge dealership several years ago saying they weren't able to do rentals anymore for some reason.
Anyway, I'm hoping for the best on this and if they fix it as they assured me this morning they would, all is well. thanks again

They call what we used to call the synchro the blocking ring, and what we used to call the slider a Synchro assembly.
Anyway, bet they get it right this time.
document all that is done and when and by whom... Due to a gussett in the back of the NV5600 it has trouble getting lubrication to the rear bearing.. Chrysler put out a bulletin to add an additional qt or actual liter to the transmission so the oil will be sure to get over that gussett.. NOW on rebulds of this transmission they are boring holes in the bottom of that gussett so the oil can get to the rear and grinding out a port so that more oil can get to those back bearings. Adding the oil is done through shifter hole or top bolt hole on PTO cover. Your dealership is not up to date it seems like
I think they owe you another rebuild[nonono
Great I was reading about you getting rebuild make sure the bore the holes, I can give you info on a trans shop in Phoenix if needed they have done 2-300 of these with bo problems. And oh if you paid with credit card.. call the bank and file a dispute It will freeze that $2800 until the matter is resolved

From what I have heard this transmission went into 2000-2003 s
NV=New Venture went bankrupt because of this transmission due to not enough oil getting to rear bearing over that gussett. The tech I talked to said all these trannys are good for about 150-175 K before that rear bearing goes out

Ted- The only place I would have work on a 5600 is Blumenthals in OKC. I put my truck on a trailer and took it to them from NC to do the swap to the 5600 when I lost 5th gear in the 4500. That was in 2000 or 2001. The trans now has over 300k on it with 1 fluid change and with a lot of towing. Blumenthals recommends using Lucas oil as the extra quart.
Call them, they know their stuff.

My 01.5 had the case with the oval hole cast into the rear gusset. My trans guy showed it to me when he had it tore down. He also said he checks all rebuilds for the oval cast hole, or makes sure there were two 1/2" diameter minimum holes drilled thru where required to allow fluid thru.
He said the early 6-speeds didn't get the pass thru but most he has seen have had them cast in.
A full rebuild kit should include everything for $2800, including bearings and synchros/blockers etc.
On a side note mine was getting difficult to get into reverse. When we couldn't get the thing completely torn down, my trans guy stated it had gear oil in it at one time and pretty much galled the shaft to the bearings from overheating!
My new one has about 40K on it and still shifts great if I don't force shift it.
