Re:5sp tranny grinds
Sounds alot like you need new syncros. You will have to pull the tranny to install them. The other choice is to replace the tranny but I would think that that would be expensive.

My dad had a new set of sincs installed for about 200 bucks. He had the same thing goin on in his truck . I found out a way "avoid this grind" ... if you can follow this... When you roll up to a stop sign, corner, etc. and come to almost a complete stop you can apply pressure on your brakes and as you let your brakes loose and you get that little "hop" (like when an old lady sticks her foot into the peddle and doesnt let off untill shes good'n stopped )... you know the hop Im talkin about? any how just when you get that little hop you can swiftly shift into second without grinding (if completed successfully )
I dont know if you can figure out my instructs... but I think you definately need a new set of sincs .

Re:5sp tranny grinds
My first post on this forum! Usually a grind going into reverse means the input shaft has not stopped turning. Reverse is a non-synchro gear. Try putting it in rev. with the the engine off, e-brake off. Start the truck and notice for a slight movement of the vehicle as soon as you hit the key. It sounds like your clutch might not be disengaging all the way. Jim
