3rd gear GRINDS

Ok I have a 01 CTD 6spd 5600 tranny and it grinds if I shift normally into 3rd gear. Now if I wait 1second or 2..it'll actually not grind. If I also slow shift it into 3rd it is also ok. Seems to be the Syncros maybe???

What about if I used thicker tranny fluid???
What "thicker" tranny fluid should I use???

5 quarts of REDLINE MT-90???

or 2.5 quarts of MTL and 2.5 quarts of MT-90???

what other options???

thx guys for helping!!!!

the 5600 is a pig. i have redline MTL (didnt do the mix) and it was a noticeable difference. but usually, like you said, slowing your shift will be helpful.

when cold outside mine will produce a little grinding, until warmed up.

Mine grinds pretty good. I found the ol' double clutch works best. Or, wait until the RPMs settle down a bit and then give it a try.

sorry, thats what i was trying to get at with my earlier post. when its cold it grinds, but when it warms up its does not grind.

my old job was a night loader and we had to drive the trucks in the shop so we could load them up with the pallets of product. after driving those trucks and then jumping into mine, it felt as smooth as butter.

try synthetic, you should be surprised.
