Raptor 100 does it cycle off and on

I just put a raptor 100 on my truck and I noticed it seems to cycle off and on, is this normal? Also my raptor will NOT start pumping until I bump the starter, is this normal? I thought it would operate like the stock lift pump like turning on when i turn my key to the on position, but that's not the case.

It should pump as soon as you turn the key to the on position and it shouldnt quit until you turn it off.

So is it possible I have a bad relay or what? I have everything plugged in right because I've talked to a pureflow tech most of the day. Do you think the problems lies in the wiring or the pump?

Not so, the ecm controls the lift pump. When you first turn the key you should get a short priming run of the pump, then once the truck starts the pump will run full time. If his pump is wired like the stock lift pump he should see the same thing.

My raptor doesn't prime or operate until I bump the starter, after that I hear it run until it cycles off.

I should of said it will pump for 25 seconds or so when you first turn it on but unless you dont start it up when you turn the key on it should run until you turn the key off.

Have someone turn the key to the on position while you check voltage at the plug going to the raptor.

What's your fuel pressure when the pump is running?

Bumping the starter and turning the key to the on position are two different things.

When you turn the key on without bumping the starter you should get a short run of the pump, maybe 5 seconds or less depending on the programing in the ECM.

When you bump the starter the pump will run for around 25-30 seconds and then cut off.

You all are right, Ive been away from my truck for to long and I have a fass. We installed a raptor 150 on my granpas truck and im pretty sure it does the same as my fass. When you turn the key to the on pos. it primes for a few seconds and if you bump the starter it runs for 25 seconds or so but when the truck starts it shouldnt quit running until you turn it off. I dont know if you can hear your air dog but my fass is loud and I have no trouble hearing it.

I don't know what my fuel pressure is; I don't have a way of checking it. When I turn the key to the "ON" position nothing happens. When I "BUMP" the starter that's when it will turn on and cycle like you said for 25 seconds. But I still don't understand why it would run great the past 3 days and then act like this today.

Even though this is now the least of your problems, you can get a cheap, cheap FP gauge (direct screw in) and attach it to the test pot on your filter (the one closest to the engine). You won't be able to see it WOT under load, but you'll be able to see what your pump is (or was) producing. I think the cheap gauge is around $10.

He has on '02 and can't hook the gauge that way. Filter is completely different with a screw off lid. Have to get an adapter @ the inlet of the IP or cut into the line after the filter to install one.

My raptor does not run until I bump the starter. It will absolutely not run at all when the key is switched on. As for a gauge, I bought a tapped banjo bolt and put it on the inlet at the VP-44. I then got a male CATERPILLAR test fitting and screwed it in. I made a hose (long enough to go through the wheel well and up to my open driver's window) with a liquid filled gauge on one end and a CATERPILLAR female quick connect on the other end. Now whenever need be I can put on my gauge and drive down the highway to check things.

You just need to make a pod to put it in out on the cowl like the old fire birds.
