Problem Solving
Sea Bass, yes I did bump the starter whenever I drained the filter. It only released air that one time. Yesterday when I got the code I tried that a couple times and it released fuel. The second time, it took a couple seconds for it to drip but it was fuel, i'm stumped.
It only dropped air from the filter that one time, thats what is stumping me. I got it at a Dodge dealership. Im going to see if they will put in a Fuel pressure gauge while they are under the hood.
Yeah your telling me and heres the kicker, brace yourself. I just bought that truck Friday and it died on me Saturday. I didnt even have it for 24 hours. So, ole boy at the dealership that sold me the truck, hes gonna have a bill waitin for him.
Well on the good side..... if you end up with a new Vp-44 and lift pump you should have a good running reliable truck. Sounds like it could be the ECM too.
I forgot that some of those have an electric lift pump. You should still do what Geico said and install an in cab fuel guage. It's pretty important on those. As they said the truck will still run with a bad lift pump and you'd never know it until your overworked injector pump dies. If you monitor the pressure from in the cab you will know when the lift pump goes out and you can save your IP. IP's aren't cheap.

I just put a half tank in it. I told them to install a fuel pressure guage in it. Im not sure if it has an electronic fuel pump on it or not. I can hear the fuel pump kick on when you turn the key to "on" so maybe it is electronic.
Just an update. The dealership that I sent the truck to finally got around to looking at it and yep its the worst case senario. The lift pump and the injection pump need replaced. The cost is going to be 2700 dollars but the dealership that I bought the truck from had a 25% parts and 25% labor warranty so my cost is 2000 grand. But, considering that I didnt have the truck for 24 hours when all this happened, I consulted an attorney in West Virginia (where I bought the truck) to see if I had a case and I am waiting for a reply from them.
That sucks man! When I bought my wifes used '02 the Dodge dealership told me they do a full inspection on every used truck they sell
. Yeah whatever.
Took it home and put a FP guage on it the first night, and guess what..........dead LP
! Luckily the VP survived. My wife would have chased the salesman down and given him a nice haircut
............with a hammer!
Shouldn't the LP be on the inspection list or is it just obvious things, air in the tires, oil in the engine, or shampooed carpets
