Power steering problems
Power steering problems
Hi Guys, How do you determine what the problem is with the steering on an '02' I've got what appears to be an intermittent leak of power steering fluid, steering is intermittently horrible, there is a constant whine from the power steering pump, I'm quite sure the pump needs replaced. Ball joints and track bar recently replaced. How do you know when the steering box needs replaced? Oh by the way My airconditioner\heater only blows on the windshield, I looked for a disconnected vacuum line, didn't see any. I would appreciate any input.
Replace steering box when it has too much play, is leaking (usually at the pitman shaft) or won;t return to center. Do not buy AGR. Only buy A1 Cardone IF you get a lifetime parts AND labor. I'm considering redhead but want more confirmation from those that have many miles on the redhead box.
Sounds like your PS pump is on the way out. You could try some synthetic fluid to stop the wine (my bad - mind on something else, meant whine) but that may be a $20 waste of $$. I suggest cleaning it off and looking for leaks - at hoses, pitman shaft or??? Leak that comes from between the PS pump & vacuum pump is engine oil, not ps fluid. See fixinrams for explanation. Then you need to decide (what parts ie source) how to repair.
Airconditioner is vacuum leak. Look for vac diagram & test hoses. These should have been separate posts &/or searched.
