Is this possible?

A friend of mine owns a 01 2500 Ram with the V10. He has been complainting about the horrendous gas milege. He has the 4:10 gear ratios.

I have the 3:55 gear ratio in my 2500. My question is this...would It be possible to park the trucks together and easily swap the gears out of the two. I would like the 4:10 and he would like 3:55 to help improve his milege. I want pulling power!!! Are the gears the same in the 99 and 01? How long would it take for somebody that knows what their doing?

I am considering this. With 315 tires I think this would be a better gear for me.

What do you think?

I cannot tell you if the gear sets are the same but I can tell you that it is quite a job, you will need to set up each of the 4 gearsets in their housings, if you are not equiped for this : press, mics, dial ind, torque wrench in/lbs & ft/lbs, shim and bearing kits, patience, etc. you might as well grab about $600 smackers and head to the gear shop.

On rare occasions you may find the gear sets use the same set ups but tou would still need to set the preloads.....bottom line if they are the same gear sets you are gonna be under the truck for most of a day,
have fun!!

It might be easier to swap hub to hub rear ends.

Are both drum brakes?

I would need to swap both (4x4). Lot of work! Maybe it is not such a good idea!
