Poor Mans Aux Fuel Pump ?'s
Poor Mans Aux Fuel Pump ?'s
I work at an auto recycler and have access to numerous types of frame mounted pumps. My question is; what is the max pressure I can run with my stock LP, and has anyone got any other ideas.
I am not ready to spend 300-400 dollars just yet, because I want to upgrade to an 03-up CTD.

Go with the Carter " campaign " pump it will cost you 70 bucks and will fit in the stock position. But, I would definetly go to Genos garage and get the relocation kit because you will not like the pressure you get in the stock position. I seen some guys running up to 30psi but that that's with a dual LP set up. I got my pump at an International dealer.
I read somewhere that the in-line lift pump used on the 6.5 liter G.M. diesels makes a good aux. lift pump, but why not use it as a primary lift pump, bypassing the block mounted Carter? I drove a chevy diesel for years and never had a lift pump go bad, every thing else, but not the lift pump.
Went with the 6.5 GM pump. Just went down in the yard and got a couple of fuel filter fittings from an 88-94 GM gas truck.
I cut a section out of the old line and spliced in the the pump. The sticker on the pump said 10-15 psi max, so that should be sufficent to keep my vp alive incase the LP dies.
I don't have a fuel pressure guage yet but will try to have one this week.
Thanks for the help guys..

The main reason for the "campaign" pump was the fact that when the LP fails, it restricts flow. The campaign pump has been redesigned to NOT restrict flow when it fails; and the kit includes a low-pressure sending unit.

Pump seems to be doing fine. My drive to work is 65 miles one way, so I had a little time to play around. Didn't notice any real power increases. Truck has better throttle response on the upper range and I might have gained 1mpg by doing this
.
I used the Geno's relocation kit and you may want to try the Aeromotive AE11203. It is on my veggie side and runs 16psi at idle, 12 psi at 65 mph and never below 10psi at WOT. When my relocated campaign pump fails, I'll add the aeromotive to the diesel side. Really nice pump for $165 at summit Racing or any other local speed shop.
