Po216

My 2001 3500 with 86k has the PO216 code. It looses pedal response occasionally. Tried resetting APPS but it didnt help. What could be the problem and is it covered under warranty? Thank.

P0216 is a critical timing error in the VP-44 fuel injection pump. It normally means that failure of the fuel injection pump is imminent. If your truck is stock, it's covered by the X year/100K mile warranty on the Cummins diesel engine. Chances are, if you don't have gauges, you'll have a bad lift pump as well - that's a common cause of failure of the VP-44 since the excess fuel supplied by the lift pump cools and lubes the VP-44.

I agree. The lack of power you feel is the timing being pulled back. Most dealers will just replace the lift pump at first and let you go. Then you have to drive it for a bit and take it back saying the simptoms are still there. Then they will usally replace the VP 44. That is how one local dealer works around here.
