my 01 24v started getting a very loud mettalic knock at an idle but once you lay on the fuel the knock goes away i chcked water pump idler pulley with the radiator out the knock sounds to be comin from behind the timing cover and it sounds like a rod puked through the block slapping the frame it is so loud PLEASE HELP me and my 2 kids are hold up in a motel til i can get it fixxed any ideas on what to check

 

It may be a piston going bad or a bad injector. Try idling the engine and loosen of one injector line at a time to see if it go's away this may tell you what cylinder it is?

 

i broke the lines loose last night nothing changed only time the noise stops is once u give it a little fuel then it clears right up runs smooth i know there is no timing chain but it sounds like when one is loose it slaps the cover til u get back on the fuel and it tightens back up !!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's driving me nuts

 

Any smoke from the exhaust Blue/Gray ?

 

I don't think there is anyway around it sounds like hard parts. A wrist pin will make that same sound and when you give it fuel it go's away as there is load on the piston!

 

no smoke at all when i fire it up ! it fires clean and smooth except for the knocking

 

Well this tells me it sounds like a wrist pin but I'm not there its just a guess?

 

BDD, Take a very close look at your torque converter bolts and or the flex plate.

Is this knock in neutral only?

the truck knocks at an idle in park neutral drive doesnt matter but once you get back to the fuel it stops

 

Knock on wood I've not had this but, Isn't there a pin on the cam that backs out on our engines? If it runs OK over idle get you and your kids home then start tearing into it.
