Pinion Yoke Install - Problems

Had to replace the pinion yoke on the front axle. I can't do it (time and prefer to not roll in snow on a creeper) - Dodge in town could. Ordered a part from Randy's Ring & Pinion - Dodge 7290 pinion yoke.

Problem - the old yoke that was pulled out does not match what was ordered. Both yokes have the same ujoint cup size, same height - the difference being in the length of the "collar." See pictures below.

New yoke on the left, old on the right. Splines line up. But only removing the old yoke and placing the new yoke on the splines, the new yoke won't even seat enough to start the nut (so no further work was done). Dodge dealer should know what's going on but is there something blatant that is missing? Ideas? Thanks.

Also, below, the "depth" of where the splines start is the same measurement on both old and new.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You have a Dana 44 or Dana 60? 44 should be a 04746738 and a dana 60 yoke #04164120 supersedes to 04164120AB maybe you have the dana 60 yoke. Check the tag on the diff cover

Big Iron - I have the D60. And you're right on the part number if I remember correctly - problem is Dodge wants $540 for the yoke. Hence I went with a less expensive option.

Any ideas on why the install is not working? Thanks.

Wrong part obviously.

Randy's has been a good source for parts in the past. I would get a hold of a salesman and figure this out.

Talked with Randy's - their belief is I have the right part.

I'm half with them - same cup size, same splines, same width between ears, just a different collar.

And - Quad 4x4 searched for a '99 D60 pinion yoke - although not a complete picture - shows what appears to be very similar to the part I have.

Just seeing if anyone has any ideas - Randys and Quad are closed until Monday.

Thanks.

It looks to me like the new one uses a larger u-joint. The cup recess is definitely different between the two.
