over boost
so i just put on a bigger holset turbo and ive got terrible lag now. or so i think. i originally had a hx35w. my new turbo is non gated. my truck has an afe and bosch 300's. ive heard that if you overboost your ecm will defuel your truck without a timing box. could this be happening to me? i dont have any gauges yet. i know...they are coming soon. im going to slap on my buddys smartie tomorrow to see if this helps out. what do you guys think is going on? the invoice of my new turbo says its a hx35/40 hybrid no gate. i think its a 14cm/60mm??
also my buddy, with the smartie in the boost fool mode (i guess thats what its called) says he can only create around 20-22psi. shouldnt he be getting somewhere around 30 or more? we were thinking about plugging off the wastegate to see what he can get. what do you think about that, or any other suggestions?
thanks

First you need guages. Even stock with the vp44 issues you should have guages. The guages not only monitor but are diagnostic tools. You need pyro[pre turbo], boost, and fuel guages. If you run an automatic tranny a temp guage is a must.
To your problem you dont even know what your boost numbers are. Yes it will derate on overboost conditions. Run the codes and see whats stored. You need a box or boost fooler to get by the derating.

well, i just ran my truck with the smarty. it did create alot more power, but the lag is still quite noticable. when i installed my injectors and had the stock hx35, i noticed how much the lag went away. i wish i would have just pu another hx35 on it. i checked the codes with the smarty and i dont have any.
put some vice grips on my buddys 02. with the smarty on 9 he is now creating 28psi. i guess it works.
since my turbo is so new, im going to see about going back to a stock hx35.
