Unhappy engine will roll over and over

Well this doesnt' happen all the time but it really makes me feel sick to the stomache every time she does it... every now and again I will go and start my truck ( wait for glow plugs and all that crap) and it will just roll over and over and over and finally after about 15-20 seconds it will fire or if you let off the key and re-cicle it she will then fire... Veryy Frustrating and look like an idiot watching a brand new truck not fire... So I took it to the place where I bought it and all they did was re torque the fuel lines and it fired fine for about a day and it was doin it again.. any one else have any ideas...

there is a reflash for the computer for hard starts also. Search here, and you will find a TSB numbr that you can write down or print out and show to your dealer, and they can re-flash teh ECM to fix this. It still will do it every now and then, but not 10-20 secs like you describe...

also for education. cummins does NOT use glow plugs. there is a heater in the fuel filter, and a large grid heater at the air horn outlet. nothing in the cylinders.

glow plugs in the cylinder head eventually carbon up and will no longer fit out the small hole in the head to be removed and replaced. if you are lucky, the carbon flakes off enough to allow the plug to be pulled, but if it is stuck, you have to pull the head off. our head isnt bad to remove, ever look under the hood of the other 2? no thanks.

Here's a link to the TSB about the fix for long crank times on 06's.

You plug your truck in at night?

The block heater cord works wonders

Ok, just covering all the bases, some dont know about the block heater cords...

Best place to start might be the reflash TSB, if not im stumped...

Any other symptoms with the hard start? any other shuttering/stalling

Also, how many miles on the truck and have you changed out the fuel filter yet? Also running any additives in the cold weather? Maybe the fuel is gelling?

14000 KM so whats that 8700 miles and I've changed the oil 4 times and the fuel filter the same... it hasn't ever stalled on me or any thing liek that... we use a fuel conditioner at work and in the slip tanks so tahts what goes into my tank too... so it shouldn't be gelling I wouldnt' think... you guys are wicked... keep bringin the thoughts

Well, it sounds like it's doing exactly what that TSB talked about- long crank times in cold ambient temps.

Why not take it in for the reflash?

Tank_66, yours must be a 6 speed then . My truck did the same thing until the latest flash back in Oct-Nov. I have not had a hard/long start since then.
