oil pressure
Dash gauge is very inaccurate, there isn't actually a sending unit for it, it's all ECM controlled, reading is not actual.
There is a sending unit, but it's just for low oil pressure.
I would find an external gauge and test it or have it checked at a shop.

I just put a new sending unit in two days ago. The dash gauge looks good but the edge attitude reading seems lower sometimes than i expected. Probably normal just wanted to see what your guys trucks were reading. Thanks
i didnt have a gauge that worked, well not a digital gauge before i switched to synthetic oil. I didnt switch to synthetic untill 106000 miles no problems at all, but i only have 110000 miles right now so far so good.
FWIW, I used a gauge attached to the top of the filter unit. I read about 30-35 @ idle and 70-75 @ 2000. All readings are hot.
With regards to dino -vs- syn. I always run 20-50 dyno in my harley. I recently swithched to HD's syntec. The oil pressure now is lower although more consistent when hot. It bothers me the pressure seems lower but overall it behaves more consistently, especially when hot. That being said, I'm not sure which is more effective for my application.
Hope this helps

That's just what they are. In about '99, Dodge decided to change the PCM programming on these engines to eliminate the actual pressure readings and just have the gauge indicate full(?) oil pressure once the sender sensed pressure.
I thought there was a TSB out for this, bit I can't find it.
The dealers were getting too many 'complaints' about how long it took for the dash gauge to register oil pressure on startup. That's just the way it is. So after a while, Dodge decided to reprogram the PCMs to eliminate the 'low pressure' condition.
in my 2000, I have like a 5 second delay(in the winter) on my factory oil pressure gauge...
but then it roams from high pressure when its cold to about middle of the gauge when its warm... it doesn't fluctuate much past that....maybe a little with RPM's but not a large change...
Should I not trust my factory gauge?
Or is that one more gauge I need to add along with fuel pressure?
Thanks,
Tim
