Sorry fellas if this has been beatin to death, but I did do a quick search and came up with nothing. Anyways, its looking like im going to need to replace the oil pan gasket, and am wondering if this can be done with the motor in? what else I should be doing since im doing that. as there always seems to be other stuff to fix while your there. I should say that I haven't really got into this and confirmed 100% its the oil pan gasket as of yet, but don't see were else all this oil can be coming from. it is accumulating on the oil pan just to the right of the drain plug(drivers side of the pan, about and inch from the drain plug) its not leaking to a point were its become an issue, but I have the time and would rather do it in a time and place of my choosing.

Whoa, hold on now,

You've got a lot of leaks easier to fix than the oil pan gasket. You are probalby lookin at the puke bottle, the vac pump or even possibly the PS pump leaking oil before the pan gasket....

I'd super clean everything off and dust with baby powder before I dropped the oil pan.

 

I agree with SIXSLUG, I use oil dye and black light myself to check for oil leaks. Front crank seal is also another place to check before replacing pan gasket

 

its an oil pan leak. has anybody done one in the truck. it looks like it can be done, but the cross member looks like its going to present some issue. any advice on this?

 

If you have to do this... ugh.

Take the front body mounting bolts out at the rad support, take the front cab bolts out, loosen the rear cab bolts. Now jack the cab and front clip up, using the rear cab mounts as a pivot, you don't have to go very far.

This will allow you room, to take the engine mounts loose, and lift the engine enough for the pan to clear the cross member and the bell housing. You may still have to take the oil pump pickup off, before completely removing the pan, but it makes life easier.

 

Well Pind, looks like that oil leak aint that bad after all. going to pass on this repair and just deal with the mess. its not leaking bad enough to warrant this kind of time to fix it. but thanks for the info.
