oil change color

when the oil is changed in my CTD, in the next day or two afterwards the oil color is no longer a golden honey color. its actually already a charcoal color, still clear but already discolored. this occurs when i do the change and also when i pay to have it done at a local speed shop.

i use rotella 15 40 all the time and when someone else does it i supply them with the oil.

is it that there is so much oil to change out that not all of it comes out and so when i add the new it mixes with the old? causing the immediate discoloring?

thanks for any input

That and the fact that our engines produce a lot of soot and that gets in the oil.

You don't want to hurry a oil change. What happens is that you not getting all of the oil out. I normally pull the plug and go eat lunch and then finish up.

I've seen in the last two years of my truck when you shut it down it takes about 10-15 minutes for the oil in the head to return to the pan. (Dipstick shown 1 quart low.)

I've gotten into a hurry and had the dealer do a quicky oil change and found myself looking at dark honey / black colored oil. I ended up changing about 2k early!

This is one reason why I do all my own work now! I don't trust anyone with my truck. I live 150 miles from a dealer and 60 miles from a parts store!

I am with the mopar man. When changing the oil, I will usually have the ramps out, and after coming back from a long drive, will pull onto the ramps, remove drain plug, and let drain for 1-2 hrs, sometime overnight, then the filter, and grease the front end. Pre fill the new filter with Shell oil and then fill the system. I will usually fill an empty 1 quart container, from the 3 gallons, and then dump the other 11 Qts into the system. The dip stick then will read at the full mark.
