OEM LP dead at 178k

Died a few days ago. Just put the Airtex pump on. I've only drove about 60 miles with it, but I did find a few lost hp with it. My original has prolly been weak for awhile.
I got it at Advance Auto for $159.99 with a one year warranty. I am currently working on putting a gauge together to see how it holds up.
I read somewhere that this style of pump will shut you down completely if it fails. Any truth to that?
That could be a good thing for guys without gauges.

I just bought an LP this morning from NAPA $221.00, for my truck.

95,000 on the first one and 89,000 on this one. Lost power yesterday morning while driving, it came back on and I took it home. Going to change it out this afternoon.

Never threw a code. I still have the original VP-44, 184,300 miles.

Got to wait and see if it hurt the 44. It was cool yesterday morning.

I changed the LP yesterday. I always heard the other one until it died when I turned the key on. Don't hear this one at all. It's running. I guess when they are new they don't make much noise until they wear some.

I checked for codes again before the change. None present. After change out, it threw 1693. I assume that was for no fuel pressure while the pump was being bled at the VP44 banjo. Gotta wait and see if it disapears.

The code list says some stupid stuff that you can't understand.

I can hear mine, it just sounds "different", more like a buzzing sound than the old Carter.
A buddy at work just put one on his '00 2500. Lightly modded, he gets 16psi at idle and 12psi WOT.
Sounds fine to me.

Is this Airtex a bolt up applications guys? (No mods need to be made to install)

Noticed yesterday my fuel pressure gauge starting to move around more - 12-15psi. Have had several instances now in the past week where when I turned the key to the "on" position to activate the grids, the LP didnt kick in at all. (crawled under the hood and tapped with screwdriver and it took off)In the past this has been indicative of a failing LP. (This will be my 3rd pump - about 5 months out of my 1 yr NAPA warranty.)

Might try this Airtex if it's a bolt up application. Otherwise will likely throw on another Carter and hope for another 14 months.

Straight replacement. Does away with the rear banjo bolt. It is a real pain to hook the rear line up, I had to slightly bend a hard line out of the way. It was a bunch easier to get to after I took the filter canister off.
