No more belt squeek at shutdown

Hey guys,

I have noticed lately that sometimes when I shut the engine down I no longer have that belt squeek that is so common to the CTD. Does this mean anything?

My truck is just a year old. Sometimes it squeaks and sometimes it dont. Some of the squeaks are real head turners. Really gets peoples attention.

Someone on here called it a "status chirp"

Re:No more belt squeek at shutdown

Its normal.

Its the compression of the engine coming to an abrubt halt before the accesserioes can stop.......which are"connected" via the belt, hence the noise you hear.

Try a Goodyear Gatorback belt and it will get rid of it. Mines slowly coming back , but my belt is going on 2 years old.

Re:No more belt squeek at shutdown

Whoops, thought you were asking if the squeek was normal, sorry misread your post.

Some trucks do it, and some don't. Some people like it, and some people don't. No worries.

Not sure if the 03+ trucks have the same characteristics or not.

Re:No more belt squeek at shutdown

The squeek stopped probably because you're not running your AC anymore. The squeek is the engine stopping, but the AC compressor not being able to stop so quick.

Mine might squeek once a month. It didn't use to do it, in years past.

Re:No more belt squeek at shutdown

Ok guys, Thanks a lot for easing my mind. I knew the chirp was common to the CTD. When mine quit doing it at every shutdown it crossed my mind that it may be indicative of a loss of compression.

Re:No more belt squeek at shutdown

I understood this squeak to be more prominent in trucks that have fuel / timing boxes. Not sure why or how it would affect anything at idle though. A guy at an injection pump place told me a long time ago this is how you can tell if a truck is stock or not, by the severity of the squeak. I realize some trucks squeak with no box, so maybe it becomes the severity of the squeak. I have noticed this on some of the trucks we get in. What do you guys think? LE
