Newb question about airbox...

I tried doing some searches on this but couldn't find anything...

I just got my truck a few months ago and am trying to catch up on all the maintenance. The air filter looks pretty dirty but the vacuum gauge on the air box shows that it is fine (more like perfect). Should I trust the vacuum gauge or are these notorous for being junk?

Thanks in advanced for the help!

Brad

I have checked mine wih a precision gauge and it is very close. And it doesn't indicate any restriction at 15,000 miles. These filters have a lot of capacity. And, a new one doesn't really help anything unless you have a lot of additional power capability and are using it constantly. A stock tun engine has more than enough excess air most of the time. Wait until the indicator shows you need a filter.

Yeah, they work. They just don't show any signs of restriction till the filter gets pretty dirty. I changed mine once and then went with the BHAF. Unless you are driving in really dusty conditions your stock filter will go a long way til it starts showing on the filterminder, mine was almost black and the filterminder was barely showing any yellow at all.

If filter is nasty, change it. Generally a severe restriction is indicated. Have changed my filter three times in 70,000 miles cause it was nasty. Never have seen filter minder move.
