airbox/tire question
Does a "Swiss Cheese" airbox make the turbo whine much?
Does it increase performance?
How much towing power is lost when going from 265 to 285 tires?
I just started & need some helpful advice.

A little more sound with swiss cheese,
Not really, may reduce EGT's some,
You won't even notice the diff with 285's ,make sure you get your Speedo recalibrated.
You are better off with a BHAF or aftermarket intake system, that truck has enough power to tow pretty much what you want.
Fill out the rest of your signature to let us know what you have.

I "swiss cheesed" my airbox, just a little more whistle, but not significant. I had 285's and my mileage all around improved with them and it towed the same as with the 265's. I've since gone to 315's which puts my city mileage at about 12 mpg. I had the speedo recalibrated properly for each tire size.

I go to the Sierra's a lot, so I put a quad xzt on, and it has made the truck accellerate like it has 285's on again, but not helped the mileage towing. I'll admit, I am heavy on the go pedal, too. I like the look of the 315's so much, that I'm willing to live with the bad gas mileage until I can afford to put 4.10 gears in.
I do agree with what you say here about an increase in overall mpg with 285's and decrease in city mpg with 315's.
315's are too wide causing too much rolling resistance.

Hey Hclmr & Ramunctious1, thanks for the reply!!!
I did put all on my signature(Just not much there for a newbie)
I am going to do a search on install for a BHAF. I saw something
on it somewhere. I'm in a small town so guess i need to visit a truck
parts place in "SAN ANTONE" or Austin to get the filter.
The pictures I've seen on here look like you just pull the stock air box
& put on the BHAF.
How do you mate it up w/ the intake hose?
PS: Did "Swiss Cheese" Yesyerday. Didn't seem to do much; dont have
pyrometer;may help on mpg; time will tell.

I really don't want a LOT of whine, a little, OK.(I smell the silencer
ring deal
)
I'm basically setting up for a MINOR chip install (50-70 ponies) to
come in the future.
Just had the dealer flash for mpg. 15 to 18 jump (80% hwy/ 20% town)
I understand all these things may improve mpg as well.
I wonder if the swiss cheese/magnaflow combo is enough airflow for
the level of horsepower I am suggesting(By the way, have not removed
any baffles or anything pre-turbo)
Suggestions
Wife won,t go for much turbo or straight-pipe stuff

Hilclmr, I promise to get my signature right.(Soon
