total newb question

I posted awhile about brake controllers, but haven't bought one (can't decide which to get on my $100 budget)

But the reason for my post is this: Is the controller hook-up from the factory a flat-pin connector w/ 4 pins under the dash by the driver's knee?

In my opinion witch one is just a matter of wanting bells & whisles, as to hook up I don'nt know about the newer trucks but normaly you have to tap in the wiring harness, as to the 4way flat that I think that you refur to is a trailer hook up for lites only I think you need a 5-7 way to connect for lites & brakes.

My '99 came with the tow package and had a pre-wired square plug under the dash and a seven way plug on the hitch.

I clarified my question.

I just want a controller that works w/o killing me or sending the trailer over to the next lane without me. Probably an inertia controller.

I'll put in my plug for the Tekonsha Prodigy. This is my first brake controller I ever used...no experience with any others. I have no complaints, and I like how it works. The install of the mounting bracket took longer than the wiring which was simple plug & play...total install time was 1 beer & fifteen minutes.
Total cost $99 plus $8 for the adapter harness for a Dodge.

Where'd you get it? I've heard a lot of good about that controller.

I'm gonna have to drag my install out if it's that easy. I get scared when things go as they're supposed to my first time around.
