New problem with tranny?

Ok, just caught my truck before it rolled away! I parked my 6 speed on a slight incline a little bit ago and as I stepped away from the door it rolled about a foot before I got in to stop it. Had it in first gear without the brake on. Is there adjustment or what do I need to do? Thanks for any help.

Am I crazy or what? I didn't know if the truck rolling was indication my clutch is having problems or something needs to be adjusted? Thanks for any info. Never had a problem like it before on any of my other trucks.

Thats why they make parking brakes. I would try using a higher gear, it will make it harder to roll away due to the higher ratio. It may also be poping out of gear. I would suggest always using the parking brake. I always set the brake on my auto.

Wrong... A truck will roll easier in a higer gear. Try it. Go on a steep hill and put your truck in a higher gear and it will roll a lot easier than in first or reverse gear.

To the one who started this thread either you did not have it in gear or your clutch is bad. I doubt it is the clutch because if it was that bad you would surely know it.

I put it in reverse all day, no probs so far. I had several locals tell me that I needed to adjust my throw out bearing or linkage? I asked how and none of them could tell me.(none of them own a dodge!) As far as popping out of gear, when I jumped in it was still in first, and it was like a really slow creeping roll. The parking brake needs to be adjusted, doesn't hold that great. I will tackle that this weekend. Thanks for any help.

No adjusments. None.. Either you had it in a higher gear and thought it was first or you never had it completely in first gear. Go to a hill or place simular to where you experienced it and play with different gears and see what happens. I have had the 5 speed in my 3500 do basicly what you are saying however i could tell it was not all the way in gear.

Will do, thanks, since all the local shade tree mechanics always have all the answers that is way I always ask questions here. With out this site I would have never got some of my warranty issues fixed last year. I know when I first got it last year it was sometimes hard to get in all the way in some gears, but I thought I had the hang of it. Have a safe and fun holiday weekend all!
