Is my transmission screwed?

So I'm driving along tonight and every once in a while it will try to downshift with very partial throttle and end up falling back into the gear it was just in, it will do it over and over again for about 5-6 times then just stay in the gear it started in

im talkin like trying to down shift at 10-15% thtl on a flat road ~60mph

Re:Is my transmission screwed?

Is the trans actually downshifting or drifting in and out of lockup?

Re:Is my transmission screwed?

Try the "happy box" listed on Ebay.
It addresses the voltage issues that would cause erratic lockup.

Re:Is my transmission screwed?

you bring up an interesting point, it kinda feels like its just letting go for a second then grabbing back on

there *seems* to be a connection between doing it more often with my KC lights on (two on front grille) and less/not at all with them off... also I noticed that my "check gauge" light stays on when I start the truck because the battery voltage is too low... my outside air temp sensor also often displays values that are way too high... or just "SC"

funny how it does all this after a repair shop shorted the alternator to the chassis and popped the main fuse

Re:Is my transmission screwed?

You should really checked your voltages etc before going any further. sounds like the boys at the shop made an oops.

Another thing to consider is are both the batterys still good. I am going to go with the torque converter locking and unlocking. does the engine light stay on all the time? if so I would take it to your local NAPA dealer and have them pull the codes.

Good Luck

Jason

FastSS, Sure sounds like your TC is going in and out of lock-up like mine did. DTT has an electronic noise filter for $35.00 U.S. that takes care of the problem. Did for me.
