Need help, screwed up tapping my manifold
I tried installing my new EGT probe on my manifold but I screwed up tapping the 1/4NPT threads. Drilled out and tried to do 3/8NPT and messed that up too. My gauge is installed crooked now and looks like it could come out. The hole location that I drilled was on top 3 or 4" to the left of the turbo. What can I do, I need help from the gearheads.

Sorry I can't help you, but you may want to post this in the Help section too.
You know I'll be taking notes though cuz' I'd do the same thing.

I would very carefully go to the next size up, then reduce it back down to the size you need. If your probe is a little cocked it should not matter, as long as it is secure.

jawmail,
When you say you "screwed up" that is not enough information. What do you mean????? Stripped, crossthreaded, not straight, cracked the manifold, tapped too deep, broken tap, kicked the dog, blind hole, probe hits the back of the manifold, your ear itches, you bought the wrong flavor ice cream? What. More info please. If you tapped to 3/8, and it's not straight, it won't be weak, just not straight. Install a 3/8 X1/4 Bushing and declare it more aerodynamic.

Now that's funny stuff.
If it is crooked to the point that the end of the probe is touching the inside edge of the manifold, you will get false EGT readings as the metal will heat and cool at a different rate than the air flowing thru it. If it is not touching, I would snug it up and drive. If you make the hole to big trying to fix the boo boo, insert a helicoil from your local hardware store to bring the hold size back down to spec and press on.

It's basically crossthreaded. I've got a 3/8x1/4 adapter in the threads, it's a little crooked but it's holding fine, even with the EZ set on level 5. The pyro gauge seems to be reading the true temps.. I think I'm just going to leave it alone and see if it holds. Thanks for the replys, always appriciated.

It should be ok even if it's a little cockeyed. Nobody will see it if you don't raise the hood. Your's isn't as bad as the guy over on the durama* forums. His screw up was knocking the end of the broken tap INTO the manifold and then he STARTED the engine. His bill for the fix was $5,000.
