LP question
I have a 1999 2500 it is basically all factor with only 2 mods really done to it.
1. exhaust brake (what a great mod)
2. fuel by pass switch great for changing fuel filter.
My question's are.
I am lucky to live close to the Mexican border where Diesel is 05 peso a liter or about 2.00 a gallon. I have installed a 91 gallon RDS toolbox tank. so i can go south for that. I have been reading the forms about LP's,
so would it be possible to just hook up to the 91 gallon tank and by pass primary tank. what would i use for a pump. I already have a 2 stage filer in place (used to pump the fuel to primary tank at the fill neck)
also on a stock LP for a 1999 what is operating pressure?
everyone talks about what they run at
but what is good operating range have been running at around 9 at full load with a 10,000 goose neck trailer. I have noticed that it has been higher but the last few months has been going down idles at about 13 or so
on the freeway empty is about 10psi. not sure where it is hooked up on the filter or the IP side.
So any suggestions out there?

I can't comment on the pump for your big tank, but with stock lift pumps, anything below 5 psi at WOT, you will damage your injection pump. The numbers you see, sound good, really good actually, but if the numbers are starting to go down, either the fuel filter is plugging up or that lift pump is dying (due to heat and vibration from the engine) and it will usually do it someplace remote. My fuel pressure numbers were good too and I still put on a fass 95 hplp as I need my truck for work.

I ran a slip tank in my chev diesel . the fuel line from the bottom of the slip tank was plumbed directly into the vent line near the fillerneck, I did have a shut off valve on the slip tank. when the valve is open your engine feeds off the factory tank and your fuel gauge will read full until the slip tank emptys and you have burned enough fuel from the factory tank to move the gauge. it requires no mods to a lift pump. and ony a "T" into the fillerneck vent line...oh and a small hole in the truck bed to route the fuel line.
just remember NOT to leave the factory fuel cap off as the gravity will fill the factory tank and on to the ground. Also whatever the fuel gauge is reading (1/2 or what ever) it will read that level UNTIL the slip tank is EMpty if you leave the slip tank valve open.
I always turned the slip tank valve off when I was not using the truck. I had a 205Liter (50gallon) tank and I was hauling a 5th wheel I could go 1200Kms before the fuel gauge would even move

I have yet to find anyone on this forum to answer that question either. Call your local dealer and ask for help. there is no reason they can't give you what the manual specifies.
As soon as I have a couple of days off and can call during the day (I work nights) I will post what they tell me on my 2001.

Thanks!
I guess mine is a little low. Just ordered a set of gauges and AIRTEX w/relocation kit from http://www.dieseldistributorsusa.com/
Can't say enough about the customer service I received from one of the guys on this forum. His willingness to shoot the &^%$ w/me made my decision on where to order. Thanks Dave!

With a 90 gallon tank in bed, you might not even need a LP with head from the tank. The LP won't have to work at all to pull the fuel from tank and feed it to the VP44.
