FASS Pump Hook Up
FASS Pump Hook Up
I'd like to thank you guys - again - for recommending years ago that I put a fuel pressure gauge in my truck.
The lift pump in my '02 has almost died (again) and will show just 3 or 4 psi when I start up, drop down to 2 after a few seconds, then 0 when driving. I parked it and ordered a FASS 95/95 and took it down to the local truck shop to have it installed. Turned into a struggle.
He called me Friday afternoon to say it wouldn't be ready for the weekend, cause he was having fits getting to the outlet of the 'nearly full' 64 gal Aero tank to change it over to the new ½" fuel lines.
I told him to just use existing line and put an adapter in it. He's reluctant, cause he says I'd lose some of the benefit of the heavy duty pump. (this is one of several reasons I use this shop - he always wants to do the best possible job)
I told him that the engine is only in the 320 hp - 340 hp range, and doesn't need a ½" line, even at full throttle. I hate to see him fight a full 350# tank for no good reason, but if he's right I'll certainly back down and let him have at it. What do you guys think ??
Lar.
P.S. Aero installed the tank in early '02, then in '06 I had it at Swanty (??) Chrysler in Bullhead City, AZ where Jay (best mechanic in the country) was doing some other work for me and then started checking things out in general. He is one very thorough, very clean working mechanic.
He found 1 or 2 of the tank mounting bolts missing and the rest were loose. 64 gallon tank. The potential for disaster makes my skin crawl. Thank You, Jay ! ! ! Lar.

There's tons of debate over the lines that a guy needs. But, I would go 1/2" inlet and whatever you want on the outlet. 3/8" is just fine on the pressure side if you are not running a regulator mounted in front of the engine. If you were, 1/2" is the general rule at 100GPH or more.
None of the diesel pump manufacturers really address this issue this way. It's mostly gasser tech that translates over. That's most likely why he is pushing the bigger line.
3/8" will flow lots of fuel. But I am with your guy on 1/2" on the suction side. And -10 fittings with a comparable stand pipe. No sense of going to huge inlet hose without making sure you just don't move the restriction downstream.
