Fass pump vs. Fass System

What's the difference between the pump and the complete system, I know you get the filter and the water separator. I was thinking of going just with the 95 gph pump only, will there be a loss of performance or reliability, or does that negate the whole purpose of the Fass system, or what?

There isnt any performance gains by going with the system versus just the pump, but there are definate filtration benefits.

Same pump on both systems. If you have the funds the FASS is a great system. I like being able to run a much tighter fuel filter (3 micron nominal/20 micron absolute) as opposed to factory fuel filters being 10/25 micron. Ansd the H2O Separator is a plus as well.
But the HPFP (non filter/separator) is excellent system also.... and 95 gph is all any 2nd Gen CTD needs, even at 800 hp!

Selling your Vulcan?

Since I buy all my fuel at high volumn stations, I went with the 95 gpm, pump only. I change my filter every 10K or so and have never had a problem. With the FASS, fuel pressure is not something I worry about.....kinda like plug-and-play.

OK, I have a Fass 150 150gph, The filters I re-order are the ones that came with the unit , diesel preformance products ff1010, and ws1001. I dont know if they are 3micron or 10micron, . The fleetguard cross is ff5588 for the 1010, but I can't find a cross for the ws. What filters are the rest of you guys using?
P.S. biodiesel viods warranty

Well, I don't think I'm selling the vulcan really, just am tired of my lift pump. I'm sorting through some fuel issues by flinging giant wads of $$$ at the truck, and I'm highly suspicious of a dying lift pump. I talked to Eric at Vulcan today about the pros and cons of different fuel delivery systems, and I'm trying to decide which one to go with. I'm considering FASS and Walbro. Don't know which one, trying to educate myself on them first. Probably whichever is cheaper, since my funding is in the process of shifting from deer season to duck season.

Also a Model 150 FASS.
Water Separator cross to Fleetguard is almost impossible to find...was for me anyway. Only reason I needed to replace it was I dented it badly getting it off (with a strap) to clean it. I ordered replacement from a dealer... had it mailed. Normally don't need replacing.

Fuel Filter... I use Baldwins BT-372 MPG.

Available anywhere, inexpensive (I pd 16.00), and is the 3/20 micron medium I mentioned above. I change it @ 30,000 miles. Probably overkill, but I sleep better at night doing it that way

Yeah man, thanks for the pm. I looked at the different systems and talked to a couple guys on the phone, and ended up ordering a walbro system. I think that will take care of all my fuel issues and not break my bank too bad.

Do yourself a favor and just buy the pump. If you want extra filters get a generic filter head (fleetguard is $12.00) and add your own. You could add 6 filters and never spend anywhere near what that whole FASS system costs.

Dont know who told you this, but its not true. only differance in wnty are the people using our pumps for WVO get a 2 year wnty.

As for the filters:

FF-1010 is a 10 micron (HF-6338)
FF-1003 is a 3 micron (HF-6604)
Our in house filters are made by FG BTW.

The Water sep....unless its rusted out or damaged, just clean it with some gas and reinstall. I would change this about every 4 fuel filters....and the fuel filters (Under ideal circumstances) last about 40,000-50,000 miles.

ALSO some more filter numbers:

Wix: 5 micron -- 51202

Napa:
1274 -- 10 micron
1202 -- 5 micron
These are paper filters though.......

Quick question from a newb to diesels. I replaced both my lift pump and vp44 in August. They are both still under warranty. Well, I just got my gauges installed. I havent got my truck back from the shop yet b/c they have to put in a traction bar. But, the guy who is doing the work for me said my fuel pressure is at 5psi idle and 3 psi when you get on it. So....my question is what can I do to remedy my problem. The lift pump is the "new" technique that susposed to take care of all my problems, its in the tank well apparently it didnt do too well. Is the Fass the way to go? If so what all does it need. Or can you just get the Fass and the problem goes away?
