Lost 5th gear, Help!!!
Lost 5th gear, Help!!!
I was driving down the highway and went to shift from 4th to 5th. Well when I let out the clutch there was a loud pop and the truck jolted big time. I can put it in 5th gear and it acts like it's in netural. The truck has no movement at all in 5th. Did they still have the 5th gear nut problem in '02? Any help would be appreciated. I think I'm going to go ahead and do a Southbend while I have the tranny out. Thats the bright side of it! Help! Thanks guys.

I recommend checking out Quad 4x4 -- Dan can give you some good advice and options: http://www.quad4x4.com/
The same thing happened to me while pulling my TT out to Montana with my '99. I called Dan and he was able to work me into his schedule on short notice. Since he had to pull the clutch to rebuild the tranny, I had him install a SB Con O -- saved me the labor cost to have it done later. He also installed his manual transmission filter kit. I was very pleased with the quality and price.

Well, I'm getting the fully splined shaft put in it and while I have the tranny out I ordered a OFE 13" Southbend to put in her. It gave me an exucse to do the clutch! I don't think the trannys are any different to pull than the 12v so It shouldn't be to hard, maybe an hour and a half. Thanks for the input.
