A friend lost 5th gear so ran his 99 ram on the interstate in 4th till the next exit when he realized he had no other gears but 4th. Any idea what happened?

 

No ideas on this? Its a 99 2500 with the nv4500. As I said the only gear that will engage is 4th. He is also running a SB DD clutch with the upgraded input shaft.

 

It sounds like he needs a good tranny shop. It might be good if you posted his location so people around that area can throw out suggestions for decent shops.

He can always call South Bend as well--I'm sure they could probably give him some good advice.

Do a search for 5th gear nut. Sounds like he lost his, common problem.

 

I figured it was the nut, as did he. we're in eastern nebraska. He's already been on the phone with SB. somewhat planning on doing a NV5600 swap. depending on price.

 

LOL, I don't have 5th either, but 1-4 work fine.

Almost sounds like something else is going on in there.
