ok as you can see I have a 99 and they have No Fuel heaters, I need some thing. and I don't want to hear reasons not to have one or run more number 1. they just sean hard to find noe days I don't want a coolant one. beacuse I don't like water and fuel mixing with very little between. I want some think that I can put back by the fuel tank right after the lift pump. to get the fuel alittle warmer and help it on it's way. I am looking to spend about 100. there is only one or two on ebay. the one that excess goods for the chev 6.5, or the guys that use glow plugs to heat the fuel, I try searching it out I just must be looking for the wrong thing. well hit me up with some links with prices

 

I was looking for the same thing. Racor makes a heater/filter housing, but I hear Racor isn't the best quality wise. I am going to put spin on filters on my truck, and will probably just put RV plumbing heaters on them. I'll wire them up with a switch and get power from Key on position.

 

Ford's 6.9 had the fuel heater just before the fuel filter. They are about 3" in dia. and 8" long. Might find one of those and adapt it.

 

a '99 with no fuel heater?.............. that's news to me.

The red and green wire comming out of the top of my filter canister is hooked to the fuel heater.

 

Unless they changed something between 1999 and 2000 model years, my 2000 has a heater. As you can see by Ed's picture, the heater was moved into the top of the filter housing, it's not a separate unit like before. Your biggest problem is the filter media plugging due to wax crystals that form in cold untreated fuel, not allowing fuel to reach the injector pump. The stock heater will help prevent this if it's working properly.

 

well I will have to see if mine is working but here in MN I seam to need a bit more heat in the fuel. There anyone out there with any more ideas on heating the fuel. also what trigers the heater to turn on. whats the temp ranges also how warm should it get.

 

The fuel heater has an integral fuel temperature sensor that turns on the heater when the fuel temperature is 37 to 53 degrees F. , when the fuel temperature reaches 67 to 83 degrees F, the sensor turns off the heater. Voltage for the heater element is supplied from the ignition switch, though the fuel heater relay, to the fuel temperature sensor and then to the fuel heater. There are ways to test the heater operation if you think it's not working. As I posted before, the stock system is very efficient , when is is operating properly, unless the system voltage drops below 7 VDC.
