Little Loose of power APPS problem?
Little Loose of power APPS problem?
I have some trouble, sometimes, when cruising at low speed (soft foot on the pedal) my truck seems to lose power a bit nearly un-noticeable....if a put the pedal more down it return normally.. I'm thinking about the APPS sensor...I've red problems about it
Also sometimes, most of all when the engine is already cold, or when I have driven only 5 10 miles, it wont shift to the next gear and the rpm goes on. (too high with the engine cold) It catch about the 30mph in 2nd gear and wont shift up..
This can be related with the other problem (maybe the APPS)??
What do you think? mine 99 AUTO 84000miles on it.

Lets look at the basics first.
What's your FP? Lack of FP could cause this problem. Dead pedal is more noticeable.
the up shift problem, it doesn't shift up at all or just when it's cold?
You can always do the Apps reset, it's free, the procedure is in the Tech facts section.

I have rebuild the VP44 about 2000miles ago...can be the lift pump?can I test the lift pump?
it not upshift when it's cold, water temp low 5/10 min of operation, but sometimes(rarely) even if I have drove for an hour or plus...

I have found these TSB: http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2000/21-02-00.htm and http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2000/21-08-00.htm
I haven't any check light on, look for codes..
can be my problem? it's this job expensive for solve my problem?

I get the same condition sometimes. I think the APPS wears over time. I've heard you can try to clean the contact pad with contact cleaner, but it's a last ditch effort kind of thing. Otherwise, the APPS will need to be replaced. There is a write up on how to clean the APPS on Cummins Forums.

Not sure on the test, but maybe the dealer can hook it up to the computer? My truck has around 155,000 miles, so I just ordered one from Hoesli. It's never been replace while I've had the truck so it's probably due.
Installed the new APPS today. No doubt my problem was directly related to the APPS, truck drives great again with zero dead spot in the pedal. I took a long cruise on the hwy. where I usually notice the "spot" most and nothing, drove great. Hope the update helps

Do a search, but I'm pretty sure you can adjust the APPS too if you find it's readings are out of whack.

For 24V APPS problems, do the Suncoast Transmission ground fix, to stop surging - locking - unlocking in most cases -- 95 % or so.
Unhook all battery grounds. Remove the 6 connector plug from the APPS at the front of the engine - lock tab on the bottom -- looking from the front the top left is the number 4 wire and is black with a yellow tracer. Cut that wire at the back an inch or so from the plug. Connect a wire to each end of the cut wire and run both to the battery ground. You need about 2 1/2 feet each of #16 ga. or so wire. Butt splice to the cut ends and 5/16 terminal to the battery cable ground bolt. Do not wire tie it to the alternator harness below the APPS.
Hook up the cables. Turn on the key and slowly depress the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor and let it back up to reset the APPS. Turn off the key.
You are now ready to go.
After multiple ground cleanings and APPS resets, this is the only fix that cured the problem for me.

I remember somewhere on here there is a way to set the APPS, did it for mine. Ya hae to check the voltage on a wire and at idle it should read the required mV as stated on the back of the APPS sensor.
