lift pump or what

my 01 24 valve is having an intermittent problem, usually 99% of the time after its been sitting when I get on the road after warming it up it has no power, it will start fine and idle good, but has no power, it will rev up to about 15-1800 easily then work slowly up to the shift point shift and start over, on occasion it looses power just going down the road but it will correct itself easily and its fine. It has me baffled. I would think that if it was the lift pump it would kill the truck, or be constant. if I pump the pedal a few times it will generally bring it out of its fit but some times it takes a couple pumps some times it takes 5 or more. I have cleaned the grounds, no visable fuel leakage, it only has 87k on it I need some advice. are their any sensors I should replace or any thing?

Fuel pressure test , doesn't the Edge have a fuel pressure in it .
A pump going out may not be consistent , also the motor can run , but make no pressure .

found a pump at autozone for $161, think that its smarter to go with the pump than the $250 guage? what are the chances its the pump not the apps or a sensor, etc?

Testing , testing , testing - have your cake & eat it too , spend only what you need .
Check infidels gallery , you could put a gauge in your truck for around $15 - $45 .
With the VP pump you should have a gauge , with out watching the pressure you could kill the injection pump , now your spending money .

At autozone get a fuel pressure tester with a schrader valve...they are 30 bucks. Attatch it at the VP test port and see what you get.

You could if you got a longer hose and spliced it in, you could monitor it from the cab. Not a long term solution, but it would help you diagnose the situation.

ok also will the vp test port tell me what the lift pump is pushing or the vp?
the only pumps are the lift and the injector? none in the tank or....?
not to familiar with the 01 miss the 90and the 91!!!
what should the pressure be at the vp test port?
more fuel pressure guage options? eventually I want a full time guage? any suggestions?

The only pumps are the lift and injection.
There is no pump in the tank unless one has been put there.
Pressure should be 10 PSI at idle.
If you search Fuel Pressure Gauge in the search function you will probably find many options for set up and purchase.

Good luck.

It just donned on me that I have had this truck for 18k miles and not once has the CEL come on. It lights at start up so I know the bulb is good, but shouldnt it come on every few thousand for an oilchange and need to be turned off? also I dont know if it was ever turned on, I think this truck is from pheonix but the high Idle never came on this winter. I'm getting really sick of this computer controled thing!!!!

Some folks don't like the AIRTEX...cheap, yes, but known for problems. I picked up a RAPTOR from http://www.glacierdieselpower.com/ a few mos ago--love it and has a lifetime warrantee. They're on sale now for $399. --my 2pennies worth.
