Life of an Injector

Does anyone have an estimate on when an injector would require replacement. I recently purchased my truck with 98K miles and added the items in my signature. Trying to Tech out the truck and wanted to know what I should be looking for. Seems to run fine, but does make some noise.

170k miles....yea convince me I need some injectors too. With my limited knowledge of injectors, I believe the flow rate, carbon build up or pressure pop off all tend to change from within specs after xxx # of miles.

I have 235K on mine original injectors. No problems here.

Injectors are not like spark plugs.

yeah a spark plug works or does not work, an injector can work poorly and you would not know, poor atomization, low pop off pressure, leaking and the list goes on... they do need to be replaced at xxx mileage or if you suspect an issue pull them out and have them tested. but for the cost just replace them with RV 275 if they were stock to begin with. I just put in edgeII's (80hp) and it is comparing apples to oranges put it runs sooo much smoother, and the huge power boost is nice as well

I'd say with 235k on orginal injectors, that they are due, as I'd bet there are a couple with poor spray patterns/leaking etc. If I get energetic I'll test the injectors I pulled out they has 345,000Kilometers on them

You may wish to first check yer fuel pressure (you do have gauges?) your injection pump has similar symptoms too...

I just replaced mine with RV275s and truck runs exceptionally smooth, starts like new, and I've got 2mpg extra. That to me it the seller.
I strongly believe for the price of Cummins injectors ($ 250.00/set) it's well worth replacing after a while, you'll be surprised of the gains.

Just an option
contact magneto diesel in San Antonio 210.277.2801. They are auth bosch test facility and just spent $1m in upgrading a new shop. I took a walk through yesterday and wow, they have all new certified bosch test equip to test any pump or injector from Cummins to Detriot to Cat. One inj pump I noticed was the size of a small V8. Crazy!
