Keep it or sell it?
I have a 1999 Dodge 2500 Cummins. It has a bad lift pump, a weak injector pump that will only last about another month and a bad throttle sensor. It has 181,000 miles and has been used and abused as a construction work truck. Is it worth putting $3,000 in parts or dump it on a dealer in trade for a new one?
I've got $185K on mine, and I'm rebuilding the tranny next week.
If you are one of those guys that needs a new truck go for it. But if you like the truck keep it and fix it up. I just put $1,000 in body work on mine. I hate dents.
I'll put $4K in her this year to keep her tip top shape. Sales tax & registration on a new one are $4,500 in Nebraska.

I'm amazed...no enlightened by the replies...I just bought a '99 Quad cab, long bed 2500 5 spd that has what I think are lift pump issues and consequently injection pump issues, the U-joints just fell out of it (they had been replaced once already), the tranny and transfer case are both losing oil fast, the front end is beginning to feel shaky, one of the back doors won't open, the power port just fell out of the dash, a "53" block and the $12-1500 I've spent on parts yet uninstalled to make this truck keep up with grandma in her Yugo...all on a truck with 79k when I bought it 2 months ago...none of these items were apparent when I purchased the vehicle from a very reputable dealer so I don't think he was hosing me...(3 month 3k warranty that I'm way past)
So...while I like the truck and the Cummins engine...and reading all the maladies associated with these Dodges I'm absolutely astounded by the bashing the Ford recieves at the hands of a Dodge owner...
I'm just a bit ticked off by the most recent of these issues cropping up and the mega bucks I have to throw at this "truck" to keep it on the road...I may be over reacting and when I calm down I won't quite consider this truck as much as POS as I do now...but it's hard to imagine!!!
I've been a Mopar man all my life...but then lemons come in all flavors...sorry if some of you take offense at my broad statements above...I welcome all comments...

Reading all the problems on this site can be overwhelming at times. But remember people don't usually post all the good things about their truck only problems. Most problems I have found don't exist in my truck. The ones that due are normal. If you maintain the truck is good condition is it going to cost you, but so does any vehicle.
Mine has nearly 200K miles and I am rebuilding the auto tranny next week. It is running fine (for a stock tranny) slips a little bit, but is it at it's useful life and due for a rebuild. I'm not gonna wait until I have a load 250 miles from home and it go out. I could buy a new truck, but why? This one runs just fine, looks good, and for $4K I can have a performance Georend tranny with a 100K warranty and a truck that will last another 5 years.
When you buy something used be prepared to put money into it for fox up. There is a reason the first owner sold it, and usually it because he was spooked by something mechanical.

I bought my truck used, almost 2 years ago with 42,000 miles. Now
approaching 65,000 miles. Never had one problem.I installed gauges
right away and replaced a lift pump for $162.00 as preventative
maintinence ( kept the old one for emergency backup ) Just oil and
filter changes, no other costs. I purposely held out for the 6 speed
because I knew the weak link on these trucks were the auto transmissions.
With my mild mods listed, I can pull my 7000# TT up in the sierras no
problem.Quite often ,pass cars towing up hill

My point is that the stories here are the same in the Ford forums: grumble about an insane amount of trouble to keep 'em on the road...and just ask them about their truck, it's the best brand...Dodge/Ford; the view is kinda how those of us in the in the middle view the far left or right politically...
If look through the differnt forums the story is the same...sadly the is no real long term fix for most of the problems...I'm not saying I don't like my Dodge, I do but I like it better parked...like I saw someplace in one of the Dodge forums posted as the title to a thread; (possibly here) "I drove my truck today and nothing broke
