Kdp???

Im so lost on the whole KDP thing. I read in another post that the KDP is effective on some 99+ trucks... So, is there anything to do as of KDP on my truck? And what all does the KDP do? Sorry for all the question, Im just kinda stumped here... TIA!

You dont have to worry about anything. Only on the 12 valves. I believe it was a dowel pin to help line up / hold on the timing cover and it wasn't held in my anything, and it is notorious for working its way out, falling into the gears and going out the side of the housing...

Mine was slightly loose. I went ahead and had it tabbed.

They say that the new cases with the "necked" stopper were introduced at the start of the 24v and that the old ones were put in sparsely till used up but i dont see how they could be because the P7100 hole is bigger and diff bolt pattern than the VP44 hole in the covers. Other than that they're the same and I havn't checked mine... not sure what to think either

TNutcher, I'm with you on this!

That was the answer I got from Cummins when I asked ... no way an older case can be used with a VP44, it just will not bolt up. So I, too, am at a loss why this rumor exists that the old cases were used up on the 24 valve trucks.

The KDP is primarilly a 2nd Gen 12v issue, but it is not uncommon for it to afflict the 24v trucks, either.

You remind me of Geico266. He said the same thing and spent the time breaking his truck down to find out that there wasn't a problem ... he was upset, to say the least.

Check it and let me know.

The KDP issues is not exclusive to 12 valves. If I had a 98.5 or 99 24v I would consider taking a look to make sure it would not effect me.

Why? The KDP issue was due to a combination of a poorly designed casing and the weight of the P7100 (per Cummins). Even if it was possible to use an older casing on a 24 valve, which it's not, you still have the absence of the P7100. Cummins has stated that the pump/vibration was a major contributor to the KDP issue.

I have been following threads like these, looking for hard evidence, but all I have found is personal opinions. I have heard that a friend of a friend or a neighbor's exgirlfriend's grandfather's brother had a failure, but no actual victims. Sorry, I don't mean to be a pessimist, but it's going to take a whole lot more than hearsay to make me tear down the front of my engine.

This KDP thing is nothing new. It has happened on a 24v. I tried a search on this site for some proof and this forum seems to be spreading a lot of misinformaiton about the topic. I did however find a few post from members who personally had experience pulling the front covers on 24v engines and finding the KDP working its way out.

Also DTR member "infidel" stated he personally seen two 99 model year trucks damaged by the KDP. Bill is a no BS kind of guy so I have no reason to believe he would lie about it.

The KDP can cause problems on 24v engines.
