hey i got a 2002 dodge ram 24 valve and when im cruising down the road dong about 80km/hr if i lightly accelerate my rpms will start jumping from about 1000 rpms to 1300-1400 rpms but the truck wont go faster unless i step on the gas heavily any idea what this could be?

 

Sounds like Torque converter unlocking. Pressure might need adjusting. You can do a TC lock up switch to verify the problem. Lock it up with the switch and then see what happens when you accelerate. If rpms don't jump and truck slowly accelerates it is the lock up.

 

Clean all your grounds first, including engine block and alternator.

 

alright thanks guys! i did the water pump today and replaced the belt and so far the issue has dissapeared i dont know why but i will definately take your advice into consideration
