intake horn
intake
im new to 24 valves, previously drove a 91 12v. i was wondering what intake horn would be the best and how much they actually benefeit? ive been looking at cold air intakes too and wondering which one would be best? ive also tossed around the idea of making my own intake where the pass side battery would be relocated further back and the air filter taking the place of the battery allowing it to draw colder air. good idea or bad? anyone done that?
thanks
thanks
I would say for a near stock truck no real improvements with those mods. I still run my stock air box, as my turbo compressor impeller stays clean as the day that I installed the turbo. The BAHF filter mod is a decent filter upgrade. I've run AFE and K&N filters, nothing keeps the turbo cleaner than the paper filter. I like the NAPA gold filter, its cheap enough to throw away at every other oil change. At some point the filter will clogg up and cause you to have turbo stalling issues. At above 500rwhp, you really do need a bigger air filter, than stock.
Air horns are more for looks that any real improvement. You can build your own home built intake air horn. I run an ATS air horn. If you magically made go back to stock and removed it off my truck. I would be hard pressed to see any real difference, on a stock truck. A truck running lots more air flow (more HP), at boost they do help some, some. I also run a spearco intercooler. Really besides being one cool looking piece its functions nearly the same at the stocker, for a stock truck, but a higher HP truck would see improvements at high boost operations. Hopefully this helps.

I tried Lazarsmith's Stainless Steel 2nd Gen airhorn and saw no difference in boost levels or
performance.
3rd Gens benefit greatly but we don't need them, IMO. It's money better spent elsewhere.
