Wireing issues come to mind,, auto and stick use different ecm/pcm. and a lot of other wireing issues too.

Best thing to do is find someone that has an identical truck to yours, but with a manual. Work out a deal, park the two trucks side by side, and start swapping parts. Ive done it and it was a PITA. If I had to do it again, I would probably vote to sell the truck and get another one. I went from a manual to an auto but the other truck went from an auto to a manual.

Its not that bad, I bought another truck & parted it out, by the time I was done the trans was swapped I had made $800 for doing it.

Your truck is a 3500 2wd with the solid axle?? You are wanting to make it 4x4?? pm me about the axle.

I probably need to add that my swap was using my 98.5 and the other guys 99. That half of a year model difference cost us alot of time, bc the wiring harnesses were different. If that had not been the case, the swap would have been fairly straightforward and not taken near as long, but we had to swap the entire wiring harnesses on both trucks. PCM, ECM, steering columns, key switches, floor console, speedo cluster, tranny, and driveshafts are a the largest items I feel like you will encounter. Maybe someone else can chime in here on the difference in rear axles on the 3500. I know my 5spd 2500 had the Dana 80 and the auto 2500 had the Dana 70. We were lucky and the yokes were the same, so we were able to just swap driveshafts, so we didnt have to have our driveshafts shortened/lengthened not sure about the 3500 trucks though.

Yeah i sold the 24 valve & im playin with a 98 12 valve 5 speed.I drove the 99 for a while after we did the swap & i never had a problem with anything but your right about that 1/2 year differance between the 98.5 & 99 causing alot of problems. There was several wires in the harness that had to moved to the proper location to make the dash communicate.I would highly reccomend doing the swap with the same year trucks.Gotta go nice to hear from ya Travis.

Well I found a 2001 4x4 dually with a 5 speed... cab and under hood burned out real bad, but chassis is great.... I plan on taking my cab off the 2wd and put it on the 4x4 chassis... then swapping motors... but keeping the 5speed in the 4x4 truck.... the things I will encounter so far that I can think of is , neutral safety switch/clutch switch, steering column, speedometer hook up(transfercase) mounting clutch pedal/clutch master cylinder mount on 2wd cab.....

o ya paid $1500 for complete burnt truck, I think the long block will be good, 116k miles on it... valve cover got melted....
