No. Tuning for economy, slowing down and being lighte on the throttle will improve economy. I average 24+ mpg with the truck in my signature.

Any free flowing air filter setup isn't going to get you anything noticeable in the way of mileage. However it's still a good thing to do--it also lowers your EGTs a bit, especially when combined with a free flowing exhaust.

As mentioned earlier, a free flowing exhaust and intake may increase performance and economy while lowering egt's. However, the improvement is small and difficult to measure. Driving for economy, and keeping your truck in top operating condition will do more for economy. Out on the highway I usually will see 21 to 22 mpg hand calc'd traveling at 65-70 mph. Locally the mpg's are in the high teens. Those numbers are without the trailer or camper.

i have an S&B cold air intake and a MBRP 4 inch straight pipe exhaust and i really don't see any gain in mpg from having it opened up but it does seem to help with my performance. the thing that ive found to work the best is having my chip, when i run it on my 25% which is about 11 additional hp i was getting a gain from about 2-4 mpg more. check this out before buying an AFE http://www.thetruthaboutfilters.com/.

your right foot will contribute to the most mpg gains however, the mods mentioned all help w/the flow of air. With improved air flow throughout the CTD it works less and and thus improved perf and yea, "slight" improved mpg.
