Thumbs up

Is the injector pump(VP44) now dead?
If so, I guess the new lift pump helped the VP44 out on it's last leg.
If the VP44 is still OK, I guess the dealer must've read a P0216 trouble code and figured the VP44 was junk as that code means it is junk MOST of the time although some folks get lucky and restore fuel to the VP44 before damage due to insufficient fuel pressure & flow.
What's the latest?

Man, that's rough. Things are kinda pointing at hot fuel...can you hold yer hand on your VP top?
I'd hafta get it scanned. OBDII is supposed to have a feature that lets you see what was going on before the thing crapped out, freeze frame.

Smile junk pumps

As much trouble as everybody has with these pumps we should take them and beat somebody with them.I know a guy who had 4 vp44s under warrenty. Now take it in consideration this guy haul about 12 to 18 ton with this truck. Now the mechanic at the dodge garage told him if it goes out after warrenty is up, he'll put one on that won't fail.Dodge or somebody makes one but dodge won't let them put it on.

The "old" style mechanical controlled pump. It was replaced in newer models with the VP-44 (the one you have) and then later replaced with a CP3.

Your lift pump replacement most like had no (zero) effect. The symptoms come and go, they will happen to you again, maybe not tomorrow, next week or this month, but you will be replacing the VP-44.

PJ I have heard that alot, but dead peddle was EVERY SINGLE DAY, multiple times and somehow thru magic perhaps it went totally away for almost 1000 miles this seems very, very strange to me. I guess I was hoping a dodge diesel tech would say hey I know why it did that.

I'm no tech, that is for sure. I can tell you however that I have read literally hundreds of posts on P0216, have yet to hear of one that "went away" the symptoms might, but the impending doom will not.

Most of the time people pop back in a month of so and say "Hey, remember me? My truck left me stranded on the side of the road yesterday, no pressure at the injectors".

It's no fun to talk about spending over $1,000. Maybe you there was some magic in that old silk hat,.... uh,... I mean Carter lift pump you found.......
