high idle acting up ?
high idle acting up ?
I stared my pickup this morning, to let it warm up a little before work since it was about 10* out side and i couldn't get to a cord last night. The high idle kicked in and seemed to work, but about 5 sec after it dropped 3 clys it would drop back to low idle. Then as soon as it would get to low idle it would start idling back up to 1200 rpm switch to 3cyl. It did this about four times then finally it came up to 1200 dropped 3cyl and worked fine until i left for work. So is that a some what common ocurrance or is some thing wrong. Ive had this pickup for 4 months had the high idle turned on last month and this is the first ive heard it act up like this.
I had the same problem, but it was -26C with a 15 mph wind blowing into the front of the truck for 14 hours and the gfi plug tripped, so no oil pan or block heater. It would almost die once hitting the 3 cylinder mode numerous times, it threw a check engine light and was generally REALLY an unhappy motor (smoked out the block which was cool!!!). I ended up just using my manual high idle switch and all was well. After a few days the CEL went out...
You can have someone load a smarty on your truck and take it back off. Or take your truck to the dealer and have them update the ECM. Do a search and you will find a few big threads on it.
Thanks! I'll check at the dealer...is this expensive?? Can I control idle with a switch? is there any kit for this?
I like set the rpm as I desire, I have listen that the high idle from the dealer(ecm upload) function when outside temp is low and other cold conditions..
