Unhappy Help with noise???

I have an 01 that suddenly started making a whining noise when accelerating. It doesn't make the noise when clutch is in or when in neuteral. It makes is when you are driving and you accelerate 1700 rpms and above and typically in 3rd gear and above. It started just the other day while driving and hasn't stopped. I checked all connections to the turbo and everything looks fine. I have had people say it could be a bearing or inner cooler??? I have no clue where to start.

I was going to say throw out bearing in the trans, will it do it in netral with the clutch out, or is it only at speed

Does it sound like a mechanical whine, or kinda like a high pitch squealing?

It sounds like the turbo whistle but it is loud and just started recently. It isn't a belt noise but possible it is mechanical.

Last winter my 99 blew the intake cover gasket, which was causing a very loud squealing once my boost got up to around 15+ psi. After checking boots, intercooler, intake horn gaskets, gauge itself I found the gasket was blown here;

Hopefully your problem is something simple like a boost leak.

That's exactly where my intake leaked when I forgot to properly torque the two bolts from the now departed fuel filter. Is the noise only under boost?

Yes, the noise is only under boost. Thanks for your info. I am going to check it out in the next couple days. I am wondering if mine isn't the same as yours from when the AirDog was installed on my truck???

Did you just install an AirDog? Did you remove the stock fuel filter housing and not make up a block for those 2 bolts to clamp down on? That was my problem, forgot to install a block for the bolts to tighten to and push against the cover/gasket...silly me!
