help a bonehead
Well I went to drain the water seperator and I pulled an oops. I think I drained too much because the truck started and died after about 10 seconds. I then ran the battery down trying to cycle the pump over and over again. It probably doesnt help that it is in my driveway facing uphill at a pretty steep angle. I filled the filter back up with fuel but it still wont start. what to do now? Crack open the lines? If so where do I do this? Where they go into the valve cover?
The fact that your filter bowl is not filling suggests that the lift pump is not working. You should hear it whirring...even so sometimes it runs but produces no pressure. Get a test gauge with a schrader connection and test the pressure.
1) You need to verify that your lift pump is working. The easiest way to do this right now is to get juice back in your batteries, disconnect the inlet from the filter housing and bump the key. If you squirt a liberal amount of fuel you're in business. If it just trickles out you need a new lift pump. Anything in between liberal and trickle will be enough to start the truck, but could spell death to the injection pump soon. You're goal right now is to get it running.
2) If you have fuel reconnect the inlet to the filter housing. Get you truck to level ground. Get yourself a 19mm open end wrench and crack injectors #1 and #3. Bump the starter to activate the lift pump a couple times, then crank for no more that 30 seconds at a time. It will start like this, but idle very rough. Tighten the injectors and be on your way.
Last thing.... why were you draining water/fuel out of the canister in the first place? If your WIF light didn't come on there was no reason to touch it.
